Having been turned away from jobs many times because of her physical disability, Nguyen Thi Nha chose not to stop at simply overcoming her own hardship.
For nearly 20 years now, she has quietly taught literacy, connected people to vocational training and jobs, and helped more than 720 people with disabilities gain the chance to become self-reliant and write the next chapter of their lives on their own two feet. That very journey brought her to the July episode of “Nối Trọn Yêu Thương” (“Connecting with Love”).
For more than seven years, the program has sought out not only those in circumstances that call for support, but also stories of people who rise above adversity, live responsibly, and create positive value for their communities.
That is also why Tan Hiep Phat has partnered with the program, hoping to help multiply these good values through concrete actions for the community and society.
Opening the door to independence, one letter at a time
Born with a disability in her left arm, Nguyen Thi Nha came to understand early on the barriers people with disabilities face in studying, finding work, and joining fully in life.
She once dreamed of becoming a teacher, but couldn’t pursue it given the limited conditions of the time, so she turned to studying accounting instead, hoping for stable work. Yet after knocking on company doors again and again, all she ever received in return were refusals — because of her body.
Being turned away so many times only deepened her understanding of what people with disabilities go through. She told herself: if she ever found her own way forward, she would come back and open that way for others.
The opportunity came in 2010, when she took part in a computer-training project for people with disabilities. After the course, rather than go on looking for a job of her own, she agreed to stand at the front of the class and teach what she’d learned to other trainees. The work went on for years, unpaid, but in return she found meaning in walking alongside the disabled community.
Starting in 2013, she threw herself into the activities of her local Association for People with Disabilities and founded the Youth Club for People with Disabilities under the Hai Duong Provincial Youth Union. From then to now, she has become a bridge connecting people with disabilities to vocational training centers, hiring companies, and numerous social organizations.
Giving people with disabilities the chance to stand on their own
Beyond connecting people to jobs, Nguyen Thi Nha also opened classes for people with intellectual disabilities, where things that might seem simple — recognizing letters, practicing handwriting, doing basic arithmetic — become an entire journey of patience.
Some students didn’t begin learning to spell until they were past 30. Some would learn a single word one day only to forget it the next. For Ms. Nha, being able to read and write isn’t just one more skill — it’s the very first door through which a person with a disability can go on to learn a trade, find work, and step into life with confidence.
To date, hundreds of people with disabilities have learned their letters, learned new skills, and been connected to vocational training and jobs through her. The number of people she has personally helped connect to training and employment alone has passed 720.
More than once, Nguyen Thi Nha considered stopping to look for steadier work instead. But then, as she laughingly told the “Nối Trọn Yêu Thương” crew: “Sometimes I think, why not just go get a job at a company, it’d be so much easier — but the moment I think that, someone calls.”
There was a day when dinner had just been set on the table and she got a call from a family with a disabled child who needed help. Without a second thought, she left the meal behind and went.
To many, she is more than someone who connects people to jobs — she is someone who restores their belief that they can still live a life of purpose. That is why her story was chosen to be told on “Nối Trọn Yêu Thương,” as proof that when one person is given a chance, they can go on to open up hope for many others.
Speaking on the program, Vu Phuong Thanh, a representative of Tan Hiep Phat Group, said what the company admires in Nguyen Thi Nha is not only her strength in rising above adversity, but her spirit of living responsibly for her community across all these years. Drawing on her own experience, she chose to come back and walk alongside people with disabilities through literacy classes, skills training, and job placement.
“More than 720 people with disabilities connected to vocational training and jobs isn’t just a number — it’s more than 720 lives given a further chance and a further hope. We believe that lasting change always begins with a spirit of responsibility and genuine companionship. That is also why Tan Hiep Phat stands alongside this program, to help spread these good values further,” said Vu Phuong Thanh.
In the end, what changes a life doesn’t always begin with some grand gift. Sometimes it’s simply someone willing to believe in you, a patient hand walking beside you, and a chance given at just the right moment. When such chances keep being passed from one person to the next, love no longer stops at simply being shared — it becomes the driving force behind lasting change for the whole community.
